Pralognan & the Park

Pralognan-La-Vanoise is a charming resort town located in french north alps, nested in the heart of the National Park of Vanoise in the Savoy department.

The village center is located at 1410 m altitude. 30 peaks over 3000 m altitude surround the village, including the famous Grande Casse (3855 m), the highest peak of Savoy.

A short history ...

Before 1912, Pralognan was called Pratologinco meaning the "distant meadow." Until the early 19th century, the Pralognan’s only activity was farming and rye culture. Crossing point between France and Italy, on the famous Salt and Beaufort cheese Road, the Vanoise Pass opens up the way for trade in the village of Pralognan.

After his first ascent of the Grande Casse in 1860, an Englishman launched high mountain races in the Vanoise area. Tourism development follows shortly after, with in particular the opening of the Grand Hotel in 1895, the first world ski race in the world on track of Barioz in 1904, the world's fastest cable car in 1953, the Olympic Games skating rink in 1992, ... Pralognan is now the base camp of the Vanoise Park, with 250 km of marked trails.

And the Park

The Vanoise National Park has been the first national park created in France in 1963. The goal was to preserve the endangered Alpine ibex. Many vegetal varieties are listed and preserved, as well as wildlife, glaciers (107 peaks over 3000 m) and mountain lakes.

“Station Verte” label

Committed since a long time in a sustainable development approach, as “Station Verte” (Green Station), the village of Pralognan obtained in 2010 the European Alpine Pearls label with 26 other eco-friendly vacation locations in Europe. Pralognan offers quality tourism respectful of the environment by promoting a "soft mobility" including: electric shuttles, pedestrian-friendly downtown, walking paths and recreation spots accessible without a car, and traditional preserved alpine architecture.
